After testing Version 1 (which relied on basic hardware, glue, and wood), I redesigned this Version 2 setup from scratch to focus on weight, portability, and smoother functionality. Key Features & Build Details:
- Ultralight Build: Weighs under 800g total. Built using locally sourced wood pieces and sheets, then finished with a protective water-based PU polish.
- Acrylic Palette: Substituted heavy regular glass with clear acrylic glass to significantly drop the weight without sacrificing a smooth mixing surface.
- Tripod Mountable: Features built-in screw inserts on the base for direct, secure mounting onto standard camera tripods.
- Secure Adjustments: The lid’s angle is held tight using a simple wing-nut tension setup, giving full control over viewing angles while painting outdoors.
- Magnetic Snap Closure: Embedded magnets on the front lid and base keep the box securely snapped shut during transit.
- A4 Sized: Scaled just past standard A4 dimensions so paper, panels, and wet studies fit snugly inside.
